On the shoulders of giants it is often too easy to forget to look down, to see the roots of where we stand; the past falls away into a distant black chasm, and the stars of the future shine above.

Looking back, the first days were the easiest. In those precious hours I felt nothing, a glorious lack of any emotion or feeling; it was liberating. After all those months of doubt, worry and self-hate, that fleeting period of numbness made me feel as if I could lift from this Earth and soar past the stars. It didn’t last.
